...check out this book: Longitude. It's a quick read, and very cool. (Our mathematician brother-in-law recommended it to us because he wanted us to have a proper appreciation for Greenwich when we go there this summer.)

I read that a couple years ago. It's very good; interesting and well-written. You can't always say that about science non-fiction.
