Wildlife Update: Fawns and Frogs

The baby deer have arrived – we’ve seen a couple of them, mostly in the neighbors’ yards. They’re so cute with their little white spots and their spindly legs! It would be fun if Stanley befriended one of them (just like Bambi and Thumper), but alas, he only barks. I guess the predator/prey distinction is tough to overcome.

There are some holes in the yard where we originally planted grasses, but the dirt there is clay, and it didn’t drain, thus killing the plants. Our landscaper took out the grasses but has yet to give us the promised replacements. There are little pools of water there now, and we’ve seen tiny tadpoles in there for a while now. How they got there was a bit of a mystery, since we’ve never seen actual frogs in the yard! (Our neighbor has a decorative pond, and he says they get tons of them – the ribbetting drives them crazy at night.)
