Nothing but the Best
Did you know that Nutrition is a Force Multiplier? That's one of the fun facts we learned with our breakfast MRE (Meal Ready to Eat).
The breakfast main course was an omelet, which was not the shape or consistency of any other omelet we've had in our lives. Instead, it retained the shape of its packaging, and was rather firmer than a typical egg product. It probably would have bounced, but we didn't think to try that at the time. But amazingly, it didn't taste too bad! (The hashbrowns, though, that's another story -- salty and bacon-y, but with a bizarre noodle-like texture. Bleh. The strong aftertaste explained why they also included a couple of pieces of gum.)
The MRE also contained a little bitty bottle of Tabasco sauce, a pop-tart, and matches (but no cigarettes).
Nothing but the best for our guests!
You might wonder why we had an MRE sitting around. We haven't joined up, nor do we have a crazy survivalist stash in our basement (though I admit something like that could come in handy). The neighborhood where Mike's parents live lost power for about six weeks after Hurricane Katrina, so the people there partially lived on MREs during that time. The neighbors had a few left over (and you can imagine they weren't especially eager to go back to them), so they gave some to us to try. We were a bit wary, but my brother's visit this weekend inspired us to break one open.
P.S. Our excellent sample luck continued into the weekend. We took Isaac to A Southern Season, and they had chocolate samples! Yum.
