Pop Lit Britain

In Brighton the other day, we saw buses going to Hangleton. And of course, all you Harry Potter fans know that Voldemort comes from Little Hangleton! We did not, alas, have time to take that bus. (We also missed out on going to Platform 9-3/4 while in London. Oh well, maybe next time!)

I asked Adrian if we would be going to Swindon. (It’s the partial setting of one of my current favorite books, The Eyre Affair.) His response: “Why on earth would you want to go there? It’s second only to Slough in showcasing the delights of Britain.” (Slough is a miserable little suburb of London with nothing at all to recommend it. We spent a night there once during a stopover, and hope never to do so again. It’s featured in a book that Adrian found called “Crap Vacations.”)
