Hog Days and Dog Days

We hit the small town circuit again this weekend with a trip to Hog Day in Hillsborough. Oddly, they have the big attraction -- the BBQ cooking contest -- in the middle of the night. The competitors cook their pigs through the wee hours, and the judging takes place at 8:30 AM. Whoever came up with the bizarre idea that people would want BBQ for breakfast probably didn't have to be a judge! Perhaps needless to say, we missed that part of the festivities. And to our slight disappointment, all the BBQ gets mixed together and served as sandwiches, so you don't get to pick and choose and judge for yourself. Oh well!

The other attractions were antique cars and arts and crafts. (There were also rides for the kiddies, but we're a bit too big for ponies.) The crafts were a mix of talent and kitsch. Perhaps the strangest one was the booth selling biplane models made out of old soda pop cans. I'm hard pressed to imagine a huge market for that one.

In other news this weekend, Stanley had a slumber party. His friend Blizzy stayed overnight as a trial run -- we're planning to dogsit her for a couple of weeks while her people are in India. (They seem to think that taking care of her will be some tremendous inconvenience, but in fact, we think it'll be fun. She and Stanley are good at keeping each other entertained.) As we expected, all went well.
