Tall

For his second birthday, we got our nephew Andrew a little basketball hoop and basketball. Andrew doesn't quite have the idea of throwing the ball yet (though he's quite good at flinging other toys), but he's just tall enough to drop the ball over the edge of the basket, which he thinks is tremendous fun.

Well, we went to the UNC versus UNC Asheville basketball game tonight, and UNCA had a player who made real baskets just like Andrew does with his toy. This guy was 7 feet 7 inches tall. No kidding. He just stood there and dropped the ball in, slam dunking without his feet having to leave the ground. He made our very tall center look like a little kid. It was amazing. We had thought the game was going to be a complete blowout, but it wasn't, mainly because the huge guy was very good at blocking the basket.

It's gotta be pretty tough for him in other areas of life, though -- can you imagine a 7-7 guy trying to squeeze into an economy seat on the airplane?
