The Rule

RIP Kurt Vonnegut, Jr. I was never a particular fan of his writing. Perhaps I started reading it too young, but I found at least some of his work deeply unsettling in an unpleasant way that I don't fully understand and can't explain. But this quote (from God Bless You, Mr. Rosewater) is great:

Hello, babies. Welcome to Earth. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It's round and wet and crowded. At the outside, babies, you've got about a hundred years here. There's only one rule that I know of, babies: 'God damn it, you've got to be kind.'

Maybe one day I'll give his work another try.
