Football and Farmers' Market

One of the amazing things about Chapel Hill is that the seasons seem to arrive right when they should. The last days of August were steamy (and/or rainy, since we got just a bit of the Ernesto remnants), but then on September 1, there was that touch of coolness in the air that makes you feel like fall is coming.

And of course, football is here, so we spent yesterday afternoon and evening in the sports bar watching the Buckeyes and the Gators and the Tigers and the Tarheels. (There's a generic "college football" commercial that has brief clips for pride, tradition, etc. One of the categories is "heartbreak," and I was a bit annoyed that they showed a UNC player for that part -- but unfortunately, after the game yesterday, it seemed about right.)

Preseason rankings don't really mean much in my book, but nonetheless, it never gets old to see that number one next to Ohio State. :)

Today we went out to the Raleigh Farmers' Market with our friends Janas and Andy. Fresh picked corn, watermelon, peaches -- yum! And Nehi in bottles for those wishing to re-live their youth or get a serious sugar rush. For those with more exotic tastes, there was also a stall selling ostrich meat.
