You can't get there from here, and also, good luck getting back
We went to Apex, a small town outside of Raleigh, last night to have dinner with some friends (one of Mike's buddies from grad school and his wife). This should have been a 30 mile drive, about 40 minutes. But noooo. They don't really believe in accurate road signs around Raleigh, so we ended up looping around the freeways again and again. Mike had printed out three maps from Google maps, but even they were not much help. Argh! By the time we finally reached our friends' house, we'd gone 60 miles and were 45 minutes late. (Thank goodness we were just having burgers on the grill, so we didn't ruin the meal!)
We had a great time hanging out with them. (But the confusing roads got us again on the way home -- we couldn't get to the freeway we wanted to get to, so we just took the back roads rather than braving the vortex again.)

Yeah, I need to take some of the blame. The distances looked so much closer on the map. I drove by one important interchange without paying attention, then continued too far.
We have a laptop with road atlas software and a GPS unit that plugs in to the laptop via USB, specifically for this reason. There are a lot of unmarked back roads in Texas.
GPS baby. It's the only way to drive.
